UMN relies on paid staff, interns, volunteers and board members to ensure the work gets done.

Horace Small, Executive Director, has been a community organizer, labor organizer and political campaign operative for 30 years and was the National President of the National Federation of Black Organizers and Activists for a two-year term . [email protected]

Amara Nwosu, Organizer, came to UMN as an intern and now is full-time organizer working to engage Black people in a movement to improve public schools. [email protected]

Sean Pelzer, Organizer, trained by UMN is a full-time organizer working on criminal justice re-entry movement. [email protected]

Janine Quarles, Organizer, has worked on organizing youth and is a full-time organizer working to build the movement to improve public schools.  [email protected]

The Board of Directors forms policy, helps focus direction, assists with fundraising and is comprised of activists who have been involved in the UMN’s various activities. Many of the members of our board help with trainings.
