Mission of Sisters United:

Implement an effective strategy that organizes, empowers, supports and strengthens women impacted by criminal records to become an effective voice for change!

Sisters United is by women, for women, to empower women affected by criminal records to:  

         Help women to find their voice in efforts to reform the Criminal Offender Record Information [CORI] laws and policies!

         Create peer supports in helping women with CORIs assist one another in their individual and collective struggles, including economic self-sufficiency, child care, and self confidence

         Train and develop women as organizers so that they can become mobilized and active in this struggle for systemic change

o   Play a critical role in educating citizens and legislators about the effects of CORI as it relates to women

o   Acquire empowerment skills including, community organizing, public speaking and communications, issue and program development as well as grass roots fundraising skills the Institute for Neighborhood Leadership

o   Educate community speaking at neighborhood and community meetings, advocate and educate legislators at the statehouse, draft and submit op-eds and editorials, form strategic coalitions, and plan special events and activities that will bring together women with criminal records and communities at large

o   Educate service provides and social services entities about the unique needs of women both incarcerated and post-release, and suggest services and programs needed to help this population

         Make  women effective change agents in the halls of the statehouse on this issue as it relates to women

         Provide members with individual and member support, train members to provide advocacy services in housing, employment, physical and mental health access, as well as coordinate events and activities that provide social and family activities designed by and for women
